Mise-en-scene recreation: Learner response

 1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.

  • Good scene to recreate -  I wonder if walking away from Reception/A block would have matched the original location a little more (although that wouldn't have given you the road to work with).
  • Actor , movement/expression is the real strength in terms of mise-en-scene here- faithful to original in terms of movement and reaction/emotion is demonstrated well.
  • Bus element very hard to recreate but a little weaker- not sure how you could have done it safely though!

2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class - bullet points is fine.

WWW:

  • Great actor placement
  • Outfits directly matched the show and outside setting aligned
  • The accents were very good
EBI:
  • Editing

3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)

I think i matched the scene as best I could with my capabilities however I think next time I need to be more meticulous with my editing.

4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas?

My shot list helped me to get almost every shot right and have them n the exact place they should be- which helped my actors to be able to convey their emotions in each part of the scene. I wrote my script out on paper first - in my notebook- this helped my actors when they forgot their lines. However I later typed it out on Docs so I could put on my blog a neater more concise plan.

5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.)

I think I need to leave more time for editing and plan it more meticulously so I am able to get the results I want.

6) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.

I have learnt how Mise-en-scene communicates a certain atmosphere/feel to an audience and how the actors placement and expressions communicate the story line without knowing the background of the scene. How the costume of the actors/characters can tell you who they are, what genre of show they're in and maybe even what their relationships with other characters are like.
